Description
The Tre Pianelle knife has very ancient origins and is so called due to the shape of the blade which takes on three facets, the two oblique lateral ones and the flat central one. In fact, three-flat blades are found in Roman and Sicilian models from periods before the nineteenth century and in other hunting knives, with very sharp shapes more suitable for defense or offense than for cutting. However, what mitigates this bloody aspect is the fact that this knife is from Scarperia and fortunately Tuscany has not suffered the plague of stabbings which was widespread in other regions in previous centuries. This knife is a rarity among those of Scarperia, since the characteristics make us think of a high-end use given that the cutting qualities are not among the best.
The Tre Pianelle looks like a knife with a double-edged blade but it is a folding knife and the sharp part of the blade is only on the inside while the rib part is not sharp. The very thin handle ends with metal rings like those of the Fiorentino.
